I finished my cover this week, and it feels good. I started working on this cover in the week of 9-15 in February and I enjoyed the process, but it felt like it took forever. I had already shown my cover to a few people to get their opinions and to see if the colors for the lettering are legible and so far I have gotten good responses. The next step is to do a big reveal of it on my YouTube channel. I will mention the artist who helped me but not his name, mainly because he is a good artist in other genres but what he gave me wasn’t high on the list of things he’s done in the past. He was nice and respectful when I gave him my changes to what he would send me, but being a graphic designer I could tell most of it was photos taken from other sources and pasted together.
Yes, I’m a graphic designer, you might wonder why I didn’t just do the cover in the first place and not spend money on someone who gave me something I wasn’t happy with. I didn’t think I was good enough to do the cover of my first book. I heard that it’s recommended to hire a cover artist if you want your book to have a good cover. After seeing what I got and some encouraging words from others I sat down and did the cover with the artwork I paid for. I liked the concept that the artist gave me, but I didn’t like the art style. I used what he gave me as a template to draw what I wanted and how I wanted it. I am much happier with what I have finished and can’t wait to show it to the work on Wed 18.
