Feb Week 23-29 Update

This week felt uneventful. I’ve spent most of my time on my cover and I hope I can get it done by the end of March so I can reveal it to the world. My process is I draw out the bodies first, then faces and hair. Now I am working on their clothes, armor, and weapons. Afterwards, it will be background and finish with extra details. On days I have scheduled to work on it, I look forward to it every time I’m at work. If it’s a long hard day, I just think about going home and working on the details and get all excited to work. I’ve done art work on Photoshop before this, and each time I have fun and sometimes get frustrated if something isn’t working with me. But those were usually just one character. This project has more characters and comes with a background, so it is taking more time. You’d think it would stress me out but the only part that does is if it will look good in the end. I like how it looks so far, but will other people like it; it’s just nice to have someone other than me like it too.

Other news is that it has been a month since I sent chapters to the students, and I only got one chapter back from one student. I feel the need to cancel this second round of betas and move onto the editor, but I can’t until I save enough money for the editor. It’s a bit discouraging, to be honest. I also met up with some old beta’s who dropped reading and asked why they did. Their response is that it was hard to read and then do a worksheet about the chapter. I can’t talk to everyone who reads for me and I want to know what they thought of the chapters, if I don’t give them the worksheet they’ll forget what they read is they wait to talk to me in person. Another one said they wanted the whole book but I can’t give it to her cause she doesn’t have a computer and I don’t have a printer with enough ink and paper that I can spend on our limited budget for 415 pages. I am also limited in places I can go to where I could print it off; small towns suck on resources needed and I’m not traveling to a bigger town to print a book for one person. I’m still bitter and trying to be patient with these students, but that is wearing thin and I don’t know what to do to handle it.

How was your week? How is your writing process going?
