To be honest, there really isn’t anything new this week. Work has increased, so it has reduced my editing time, but I’m still able to work on the book. During this time of quarantine, I still have to leave the house for work while my husband and daughter stay home.
I work for the school as a lunch lady. Because the Corona Virus has shut the schools down, you would think I didn’t have to work. On the contrary, I have more hours now than I did when school was open. I help make the meals for the kids' food program; those who can’t get a meal can come and pick up a free meal from the school. I technically work for Opaa who run the breakfast and Lunch for the school, and during school I have very little hours. My boss is only allowed to give so many hours out to his workers, so being signed on as a dishwasher/server, I get the short end of the stick. Now that this free meal plan is happening, they don’t seem to care how many hours they are giving out. I find it very upsetting that the only way I could get hours is because of a virus shutting down the schools.
I take all the precautions I need to to keep myself and my family safe from this virus, but I do question how long this program is going to last. To my knowledge it will last until they were planning school to start their summer break. After that I don’t know, and I don’t qualify for unemployment. I know we’ll be fine financially, but I wonder what will happen during the summer. I have made a good reputation with my boss who has said he will make sure I get hours somehow but while I have to go back to the same hours when school comes back. Will school come back, or will this virus continue thru August. The future holds so many possibilities and unknowns. All I hope is that even with the changes to come, that things work out for myself and everyone who also have troubles during this time.
On a positive note I did get to go canoeing down the river for the first time in my life. What have you been doing during quarantine?
