I finally got confirmation from the school about some students wanting to beta read. I felt relieved, but the amount of students was sort of depressing. The superintendent was a great help, but he told me once that there were seven kids interested, when I talk to the teacher she said two, maybe four students were interested. Superintendent brought my hopes up and crushed them. However, I am grateful for the amount that I can get. Twitter is a good place to find beta readers, but not when you are looking for Middle Grade to Young Adults. Snap Chat is a good place for that demographic, but other than that I have no use for it.
I turned 28 this month, I’m not ashamed to give my age, and I feel okay with it. I do have a short story about how I felt real old earlier this week. I work as a lunch lady at my daughters' school and for some reason there were so many birthdays this week. The topic of age came about and when I told the students my age their faces dropped. They all thought I was over thirty. Only a year ago when I was a substitute para teacher, I had a teacher mistake me as a student. Kids sure know how to make you feel real old.
Moving on, I look forward to next week. I will get to speak with the students interested in beta reading and I get to be interviewed on a podcast ran through Anchor that’s known as Write Hive. I just hope I don’t embarrass myself.
