So for this week I had a few things come to me. The guy I hired to do the cover finished his art, and I bought it and one of my beta readers finished my book.
For the cover artist I had someone I had found on Twitter and even though what he did for me is okay, I am not comfortable using it as my book cover. I am a graphic designer and I could have done the cover myself, but at the time I wasn’t thinking that if I did it, it wouldn’t be professional enough to work. So I hired someone who is super nice and willing to take all my revisions of the work he had done with patients. At the end he had something that was okay, but to me it wasn’t right. I paid for the artwork so that I would own it. My husband said I could use it as a template for what I truly want and at first I was worried I would upset the artist if I did. After speaking with other fellow authors they gave me advice saying:
“It’s your book. You paid for it. His work is done. Do what works for you.”
“It’s okay, it’s important you like the artwork, especially because it’s your cover.”
They made good points the more we talked, and I chose to do the cover the way I want.
Have you ever been in a situation like this before, where you hired someone and didn’t like their work? What did you do about it?
